God's Work, Our Hands

Members of Holy Trinity, along with students from Thiel College, joined tens of thousands of other Lutherans from ELCA congregations across the U.S. in September, 2019, in a dedicated day of service to our communities on God’s Work, Our Hands Sunday.

The people from Holy Trinity participated in four different service events:

  • We used ELCA Advocacy resources to write letters to members of Congress in Pennsylvania and Ohio (we have members who live in both states), advocating for hunger issues.
  • We wrote letters to those people serving in active military service who have a link to our congregation.
  • We helped to sort and organize several tons of food at the Good Shepherd Center, Greenville’s center for food distribution to the community. The food had been collected the previous day by students at Thiel College in Greenville, an ELCA college.
  • We helped to clean up the amphitheater at Greenville’s Riverside Park.

It was our first time participating in God’s Work, Our Hands Sunday, and we left the experience feeling that we had participated in something larger than ourselves as we did God’s work with our hands in our little corner of the world.
